Dr. Peter Tufton
Dr. Peter Tufton was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where he graduated from De La Salle High School. He matriculated to Loyola University, graduating with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. While in school he did research in free gingival grafts and received an award in periodontics upon graduating. After graduation he joined the United States Navy Reserve Dental Corp. While on active duty, he served aboard the USS Kearsarge Aircraft Carrier during the Veitnam War. He finished his 10 years in the Navy as a Lt Commander and is still in contact with his fellow Dental Officers. Afterwards, he moved back to New Orleans and taught at Loyola University’s School of Dentistry, specializing in x-ray and diagnosis and crown and bridge instruction.
Dr. Tufton is the proud father of five children, four girls: Margaret, Anne, Ashley, and Meredith; and one boy. His son, Dr. Michael Tufton, joined the practice in the summer of 2013 and is carrying on the tradition of expert family oriented care. He currently resides with his wife in New Orleans where he enjoys cooking, antiquing, and gardening in his spare time. Dr. Tufton loves history and the show Blue Bloods.
Dr. Peter Tufton is a well-respected member of the community and a recipient of New Orleans Magazine’s TopDentists Award for General and Family Dentistry for the past 5 years! Dr. Tufton has built his practice based on treating the needs of each individual patient while developing a long lasting relationship. Many of Dr. Tufton’s patients have been seeing him since they were children and he now treats their children!
Dr. Tufton receives continuing education year round in the latest dental practices and technologies. Recently Dr. Tufton traveled to Boston, MA to be trained in restoring Bicon short implants. In San Diego, Dr. Tufton was trained in restoring Zimmer Implants with a focus on crafting esthetic temporary restorations as well as the All-on-4 full mouth implant rehabilitation. Dr. Tufton is certified in CPR and in the use of the Diode Laser for dental procedures and gingival contouring.
He is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Louisiana Dental Association (LDA), and New Orleans Dental Association (NODA). He currently serves on the Board of NODA as Secretary and a member of the Strategic Planning Commity.
Dr. Michael Tufton
Dr. Michael Tufton was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where he attended Jesuit High School. After graduating in 2005, he attended Rhodes College in Memphis, TN where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2009. He continued his education at Louisiana State University’s School of Dentistry, graduating in 2013 with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Dr. Michael joined Tufton Family Dentistry in the Summer of 2013.
From simply closing spaces and removing white spots to full mouth rehabilitation, Dr. Michael strives to give each and every patient a great look specific to them that they can enjoy. Dr. Michael is certified in CPR and Anesthesia and Analgesia (Nitrous Oxide) Administration. He is certified in the administration of Botox and Dermal Fillers to treat wrinkles, headaches, gummy smiles, and lips. He is also certified in the use of the Diode Laser for dental procedures including gingival contouring and ulcer removal.
What Dr. Michael loves most is working with his father and treating their patients together.
Dr. Michael currently resides in New Orleans with his wife Elizabeth, their two sons Calvin and Charlie, and their basenji Dalila. When Dr. Michael is not working he enjoys attending and watching Saints, Pelicans and LSU games. He enjoys all genres of music and tries to see his favorite musicians in concert around the city. Dr. Michael also loves comedy; he knows every episode of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm and regularly attends standup comedy shows.
Dr. Michael is certified in Botox and Dermal Fillers by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics. He is skilled in treating facial wrinkles, gummy smiles, headaches, and lip enhancements. In his time with Tufton Family Dentistry, Dr. Michael has traveled to Boston to be trained in restoring Bicon short implants. He has traveled to Houston to learn the latest practices in Veneers and Lumineers. In San Diego, Dr. Michael was trained in restoring Zimmer Implants with a focus on crafting esthetic temporary restorations as well as the All-on-4 full mouth implant rehabilitation. Dr. Michael traveled to Dallas to learn about the advancements in CAD/CAM Dentistry. Dr. Michael is also a member of the Crescent City Study Club where he meets monthly with other dentists and specialists for continuing education.
He is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), The American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE), Louisiana Dental Association (LDA), and the New Orleans Dental Association (NODA). Dr. Michael has been voted a Top Dentist by New Orleans Magazine every year since 2016.
